Pondicherry- Amazing little French India
Pondicherry, also known as French
India as it was under the rule of French government for a quite long time. You
can still see the French influence in Pondicherry as most of its parts are
designed based on French grid patterns and many streets still retain French
names. The town is divided into two sections namely the French quarter and
Indian Quarter. You can figure out the difference between Indian and French
architecture by looking at the houses. Organization named INTACH works for
preserving these old architectures against any destruction.
The population is still composed
of a small portion of French people, so you can also find a number of French
hotels and restaurants which serves delicious food and amazing service enough
to make you feel French.
Pondicherry is also known for
being a residence of Sri Aurobindo who was a great philosopher, revolutionist
and poet. People also visit Pondicherry to experience peace and spiritual
enlightenment in Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
